Sky Sports has revealed the conditions under which Harvey Elliott could leave Liverpool this summer.
Amid the noise around Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future and Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk’s contract situations, Elliott’s future at the club could also define the summer.
Liverpool fans already know that the club is set for a busy summer transfer window.
A few additions are expected, with the signings of Jeremie Frimpong, Alexander Isak, and Milos Kerkez considered almost certainties in some quarters.
At the other end, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Joe Gomez, and Kostas Tsimikas could depart this summer as Arne Slot works to fully reform the squad he inherited.
While Elliott’s name has scarcely been mentioned among the players who could leave Liverpool at the end of this season, given his obvious talent and commitment to the club, reports about a possible summer exit for the 21-year-old are becoming rife.
This is due to his present reality at Liverpool.
The England youth international has been largely limited to cameo appearances in Slot’s opening season in charge at Anfield.
Elliott’s overall time on the pitch has been cut significantly after he played 2,786 minutes in 2023/24 under Jurgen Klopp.
Under Slot, the attacking midfielder has played only 583 minutes on the pitch (across all competitions).
Slot has relied extensively on Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, leaving Elliott frustrated.
While the 21-year-old has handled the situation well and has shown his quality whenever he is needed, it appears Liverpool will be willing to sell him if the right offer comes in.
This is according to Sky Sport’s Melissa Reddy, who claims that Liverpool could sell Elliott if there’s a ‘good offer’ for his services.
Speaking about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s likely move to Real Madrid this summer, the journalist said:
“The club knows it would be hypocritical, for example, to be annoyed by Alexander-Arnold leaving for Madrid when a good offer would be accepted this summer for Harvey Elliott—a player who turned the behemoths down because he wanted to call Anfield his home ground.”
There is no doubt that many Liverpool fans will be disappointed should Elliott be moved on this season.
The midfielder is clearly a talented player and has not failed to make positive contributions whenever he is needed.
An example is his energetic performance off the bench in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final loss to Newcastle United a fortnight ago.
While it will be a disappointment to see him leave, Liverpool could benefit from his sale.
The money could be used to upgrade other areas of the squad.
